The Supervisory Board of NIBC announces the appointment of Paulus de Wilt (49) as Chief Executive Officer and chairman of the Managing Board of NIBC Holding N.V. and NIBC Bank N.V., with effect from 7 April 2014, subject to a positive advice at the Shareholders Meeting on 7 April 2014. Paulus will succeed Jeroen Drost, who will step down the same day as chairman of the Managing Board and CEO.

Paulus spent his entire career at ABN AMRO, occupying positions in retail and corporate banking. Since June 2009, Paulus has been General Director Retail Banking. In this role, he led the integration in 2010 of the retail divisions of ABN AMRO and Fortis. From 2007 to May 2009, Paulus was CEO of NEWbank, a carve-out of ABN AMRO Corporate Banking that was sold to Deutsche Bank. In 2006 and 2007, Paulus was responsible for ABN AMRO’s retail banking activities, including small business clients of the newly-acquired Antonveneta Bank in Italy. Paulus: “After having worked with great pleasure for ABN AMRO for the past 25 years, I’m looking forward to taking on this new challenge, to lead NIBC through its next phase. With its highly skilled and experienced Managing Board and staff, I’m confident that NIBC has a bright future ahead.”

Wim van den Goorbergh, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of NIBC:
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Paulus as CEO and welcome him to NIBC. His long background in both retail and corporate banking perfectly matches NIBC’s business model and strategy. We also trust his client-focused and can-do mentality and extensive management experience will help him build successfully on the strong foundations that the bank has secured in recent years. We wish to thank Jeroen Drost for his excellent leadership over the last six years. He has done a great job in strengthening NIBC’s core amid a challenging climate.”

J.C. Flowers, CEO of J.C. Flowers & Co.:
"Paulus was the first choice for CEO of NIBC of the Supervisory Board, and also has the strong support of J.C. Flowers & Co. We are delighted to have an individual of Paulus' talent, energy and experience leading NIBC into the future."

Jeroen Drost, outgoing CEO of NIBC Bank:
“After six years as CEO of NIBC, I felt it was time for a new role, although this was not an easy decision. NIBC’s can-do mentality and highly engaged, skilled employees helped me enormously in my work to steer the bank through the crisis years. I’m highly confident that with its strong foundations, the bank has all it needs to build an even stronger future. I wish Paulus, my colleagues on the Managing Board and the entire NIBC staff great years ahead, and thank everybody for their support and for my enjoyable time with NIBC.”
